What makes us important as individuals, even more so than our autonomy, is our experience – the experiential aspect of humanity and consciousness. Mirroring a societal move away from popular nationalism towards “civic identity”, modern industrial society increasingly separates people from tactile, self-directed experience and reorganizes life through institutions. People no longer shape their own lives through immediate interaction with reality, but encounter the world through systems of representation that distance them away from genuine metaphysics. As dependence on these systems deepens, individuals become psychologically passive and increasingly unable to satisfy basic human drives for independence, competence, and meaning. The system compensates for this deprivation by encouraging equally-artificial status, masturbatory self-improvement, materialist consumerism, and the endless pursuit of symbolic achievement.

We have trained ourselves to diagnose dissent as pathology. Any creature who steps sideways out of the prescribed ballet of utility must, by this logic, be ‘deranged’. Every life is meaningful only insofar as it serves the grand machination of the whole. It is seen as absurdity to waddle toward the mountains – to self-prescribe your own sovereignty. We are covered head-to-toe in extrinsic labels of our instrumentality. We must rip off our own skin and live accountable to ourselves. Meaning that requires peripheral approval is already counterfeit. The only thing offered by the institution is dull subsistence. There is absolutely no promise of truth. We cannot allow survival to impersonate purpose. A life indefinitely prolonged yet never claimed is a field deeded but never walked.

Nothing about this system, not a single thing, supports the individual. Any “success” found in such a system is done by someone invariably lucky or overtly sociopathic. All of this delicate machinery rests upon an unspoken social arrangement in which life is extended, trimmed, and medically coaxed into longevity only so that it may be more thoroughly spent in service to their own rape. Accounting for abortion, even infant mortality is as low as it was in the 1400s. To live longer, one must agree to be more available for use. This is not an overt argument against hierarchy – but in any typical non-abstracted system, authorities at least have your welfare in mind. A healthy hierarchy consists of obligations that flow in both directions. Now, the individual owes everything upward while receiving only procedural concern in return. The individual survives within it and may even prosper within it, but the system is not built for his development as a sovereign human being. We live long but busy lives, never finding the opportunity to ask ourselves who we are. What’s our destiny? Death of despair? Why is danganronpa the future of the west?
